Abstract:
Provided is a vibration damping device which, in addition to preventing the occurrence of abnormal sound and having a high vibration damping capacity, also features a simple structure. In a hydraulic transmission device (1), actuated by a drive-side impeller (2), a driven-side impeller (5), and fluid pressure, and provided with a lock-up clutch (26) which engages the drive-side impeller (2) with the driven-side impeller (5), this vibration damping device reduces the torsional vibration of the driven-side impeller (5) or the rotating member which rotates together with the driven-side impeller (5). This vibration damping device is provided with: a rolling chamber (24), which rotates together with the driven-side impeller (5); a rolling body (25), which is housed inside the rolling chamber (24) so that the rolling body (25) rotates in the same direction as the rotation of the driven-side impeller (5) and relative rotation of the rolling body in relation to the driven-side impeller (5) is possible; a moveable member (23), which when moved by liquid pressure moving the lock-up clutch (26) to an open state, anchors the rolling body (25) inside the rolling chamber (24), and which releases the rolling body (25) from the hold, when moved by liquid pressure moving the lock-up clutch (26) to an engaged state.
