Abstract:
A video display device includes: a video display element for displaying a video image via the emission of image light made up of visible light; and a holographic optical element that diffracts and reflects the image light. The video display element has an emission peak wavelength corresponding to the three primary colors R, G, B in the image light, and the holographic optical element has a diffraction peak wavelength corresponding to the emission peak wavelength. The diffraction ratio of G is 5 through 25% that is the smallest among the diffraction ratios for R, G, and B assuming that the diffraction amounts at wavelengths of 400 through 490 nm, 490 through 580 nm, and 580 through 680 nm are the diffraction amounts for B, G, and R, respectively, and assuming that (diffraction amount of B) / (total diffraction amounts of R, G, B), (diffraction amount of G) / (total diffraction amounts of R, G, B), and (diffraction amount of R) / (total diffraction amounts of R, G, B) are the diffraction ratios for B, G, and R, respectively.
