Abstract:
A video playback device is provided which, from recorded programs, enables a user to select and playback a desired program with relatively little effort. A user interface generation unit of the video playback device generates multiple selection screens for enabling the user to select a desired program from multiple recorded programs. On each of these selection screens, program information, classified according to different classification methods, is displayed arranged in rows. If a prescribed user command is received during program playback, the user interface generation unit generates a user interface image for enabling the user to select program information, and said image is displayed around the image of the program being played. In the user interface image, program information is displayed classified using a classification method equivalent to the classification method of the selection screen that was used during selection of the program currently being played, or regions indicating classification types are displayed in said user interface image.
