Abstract:
A HUD (100) as a virtual-image display device comprises: a projector (31) for projecting display light; an optical member (21) constituting an optical path (L) from the projector (31) to a translucent member (3); and a polarization adjustment member (34) for adjusting polarization, the polarization adjustment member (34) being positioned between the projector (31) and the optical member (21) on the optical path (L). The projector (31) has, in an orientation inclined relative to the optical axis (Ap) of the display light, a projection surface (32a) for projecting display light onto the polarization adjustment member (34). The polarization adjustment member (34) has, in an orientation along the projection surface (32a), a plate-shaped polarizing part (36) having polarizing characteristics. The relationship d < Hp/(Hv∙cos θ) is satisfied, where (d) is defined as the interval between the projection surface (32a) and the plate-shaped polarizing part (36), (Hp) is defined as the projection size of the projection surface (32a), (Hv) is defined as the display size of a virtual image corresponding to the projection size, and (θ) is defined as the angle of inclination of the projection surface (32a) relative to the optical axis (Ap).
