A viscosity drive device for elevating-type in-ground sprinkler head comprises a cylindrical shell (2), a filter (3) provided below the shell (2), and a sprinkler head drive device provided inside the shell (2). The sprinkler head drive device is connected with the sprinkler head provided at the top of the shell (2) by means of a connecting shaft. The sprinkler head drive device drives the sprinkler head to rotate and spray water. The sprinkler head drive device comprises a tangential flow producer (4) and a hydraulic rotator (5). The hydraulic rotator (5) can rotate by means of the viscosity of rotating water flow produced by the tangential flow producer (4), thus driving the sprinkler head to rotate and spray water.
