Abstract:
The present invention relates to a system used in the field of services and trade when paying for goods using plastic payment cards. This system is used for identifying the holder of the card and for preventing any unauthorised use thereof with a sufficient degree of reliability. This system comprises a unit for performing payment operations, which comprises a system for reading information from the plastic cards, as well as a monitor and an authorisation centre to which requests are forwarded from the different units for performing payment operations. The authorisation centre comprises a computerised unit for storing images of the plastic card holders which cannot be accessed by a third party. After a request is done, the images are sent through at least one communication channel to the monitor of a control operator working at the unit for performing payment operations or at the authorisation centre. The operator will then proceed to a comparison between the individual features of the person issuing the request and those of the plastic card holder.
