Abstract:
A voice encoding device which has a first quantizing block suitable for voice encoding and a second quantizing block suitable for non-voice encoding, and which comprises an encoder for compression-encoding input signals, a voice/non-voice signal discriminator for dicriminating whether signals input to the encoder are voice or non-voice signals and outputting the results, and a multiplexer for multiplexing respective outputs from the first and second quantizing blocks for outputting to a transmission line, wherein the encoder has a selection means for selecting, according to the discriminated results by the voice/non-voice signal discriminator, between the first and second quantizing blocks which compression-encode signals using the same quantizing table.
