Abstract:
A walking stick having excellent impact absorbing properties and excellent stability.
A walking stick is configured in such a manner that an extendable and retractable tube which is formed by fitting an outer tube and an inner tube together in a telescopic manner is provided to the walking stick body, and that a speed-dependent damper and a compression spring are parallelly connected within the extendable and retractable tube, the speed-dependent damper damping the relative sliding motion between the outer tube and the inner tube, the compression spring being coaxially fitted over the damper and pressing the extendable and retractable tube in the extension direction. When the walking stick makes contact with the ground, the compression spring is retracted to reduce an impact transmitted to the hand and the damper suppresses unwanted vibration of the extendable and retractable tube. As a result, the length of the walking stick after the walking stick makes contact with the ground is quickly stabilized to enable the user to maintain his/her balance.
