Abstract:
When a warning is provided to a driver on the basis of proximity information for a moving body (another vehicle) with respect to the vehicle (the host vehicle), a selection between providing the warning with a first warning method and providing the warning with a second warning method is determined in accordance with the direction of advance of the moving body with respect to the vehicle. In the first warning method the predicted collision time, which is the predicted amount of time before the moving body will collide with the vehicle, is calculated on the basis of the proximity information, and the driver is warned only when the predicted collision time that has been calculated is less than a threshold value. In the second warning method the distance between the moving body and the vehicle is obtained as the proximity information, and the driver is warned only when that distance is a value that corresponds to a value within a warning range.
