Title:
WARNING POLE BEING A VISUAL WAREHOUSE BEAM PROTECTOR AND RACKING PROTECTOR
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO/2014/047713
Kind Code:
A1
Abstract:
A warning pole being a visual warehouse beam protector and racking protector that is used to prevent forklifts from running into and potentially damaging beams, racks, forklifts and injury to drivers. When a beam or rack is obstructed by the mast of the forklift, the warning pole, which is held on by magnets mounted to the beam or rack horizontally at eye level, allows the forklift driver to know where the beam or rack is located so that the driver has more than sufficient time to stop or to turn safely avoiding a collision in the first place. The body of the warning pole is a cylindrical polyethylene covered with high visibility safety color mesh cloth with a reflective stripe stitched on which helps to maximize its presence. No ongoing maintenance and no installation tools are required. The idea of the warning pole is designed for warehouse safety and affordability.

Claims:
The Embodiments Of The Invention In Which An Exclusive Property Or Privilege Is Claimed Are Defined As Follows:

1. A warning pole being a visual warehouse beam protector and racking protector

comprising a cylinder made of high density polyethylene forming the body of the warning pole, and neodymium magnets glued onto one flat end of the cylindrical polyethylene body forming the contacting face of the warning pole to a metal beam or racking unit.

2. The combination defined in claim 1, wherein the cylindrical polyethylene body is covered with high visibility safety color mesh cloth all over save and except one flat end where magnets are glued on.

3. The combination defined in claim 2, wherein the cylindrical body comprises a

reflective stripe stitched around near the edge of the other flat end opposite to the magnetic flat end.

4. The combination defined in claim 1, wherein the neodymium magnets each glued onto an individual washer which glued directly onto one flat end of the cylindrical polyethylene body with no mesh cloth covered. This magnetic flat end is the contacting face of the warning pole to any metal objects.

Description:
PROTECTOR AND RACKING PROTECTOR

Description of the Invention

The Warning Pole being a Visual Warehouse Beam Protector and Racking Protector aiming to prevent a forklift from hitting warehouse beams and racking units.

Existing known beam protectors are mounted at the bottom of a beam and are designed to absorb shock when a forklift hits it. This can still cause harm to the forklift driver along with damage to the forklift, the beam protector and the beam itself, potentially costing thousands of dollars to repair.

Numerous warehouse beams and racking units have been reported to be hit by forklifts because they are obstructed by the mast of forklifts. In the spirit of preventing accidents before they happen, my invention allows the beams and racking units to easily be seen from all angles avoiding a collision in the first place.

The major materials of the warning pole are high density polyethylene and neodymium magnets. The advantages of using polyethylene are (a) lightweight which does not reduce the attractive power of magnets; (b) easy to install and remove; (c) recyclable; (d) durable; and (e) cost efficient. Neodymium magnet is known to be the most powerful type of permanent magnet and moderately priced. The idea of the warning pole is designed for safety and affordability.

In drawings which illustrate embodiments of the invention. Figure 1 is a side plan view of the warning pole. Figure 2 is a top plan view of Side A of the warning pole in Figure 1. Figure 3 is a top plan view of Side B of the warning pole in Figure 1.

In Figure 1, the warning pole illustrated comprises a body 1 which is a cylinder made of high density polyethylene and is covered with bright safety color mesh cloth 2 all over including Side B save and except Side A; a reflective stripe 3 stitched onto mesh cloth 2 around body 1 close to the edge of Side B; and neodymium magnets 4 glued onto individual washer 5 placed evenly and glued onto Side A. Side A and Side B are the two flat ends of the cylindrical polyethylene body 1 in Figure 1.

Figure 2 illustrates one of the most significant parts of the warning pole - the contacting face to a metal beam or racking unit. It shows the allocation of neodymium magnets 4 on Side A of body 1 in Figure 1. Each neodymium magnet 4 glued onto an individual washer 5 which glued directly onto Side A of the cylindrical polyethylene body 1 in Figure 1. Figure 3 shows a top plan view of Side B of body 1 in Figure 1. It is the opposite end to Side A. This end is wholly covered with mesh cloth 2 and exposed when the warning pole is mounted to a beam or racking unit.

The warning pole is held on by neodymium magnets 4 mounted securely to a metal beam or racking unit horizontally at any level of height as desire. Body 1 of the warning pole is made of high density polyethylene which does not reduce the attractive power of magnets 4 because of its lightweight. The whole body 1 save and except its flat end Side A in Figure 1, is covered with bright safety color mesh cloth 2 which helps to maximize its visibility even in low-light conditions. In addition, a reflective stripe 3 stitched onto mesh cloth 2 around body 1 near the edge of Side B of body 1 in Figure 1 allows extra visibility from forklift headlights. Side A of body 1 in Figure 1 with neodymium magnets glued on forms a contacting face to a metal beam or racking unit. It is the most significant part of the invention. For the sake of maintaining full attractive power of the neodymium magnets 4 attached to a beam or racking unit securely without any interruption, Side A of the cylindrical polyethylene body 1 in Figure 1 remain uncovered so that each washer 5 with neodymium magnet 4 glued on can be glued directly onto the polyethylene body 1 and the neodymium magnet 4 can be attached directly to a metal beam or racking unit.

Each warning pole can be attached to each flange of a beam or wherever it is necessary.

Therefore if a beam having four warning poles mounted in four different directions at eye level would allows it be easily seen in all angles while driving a forklift.

The all too common reason for forklift accidents is the lack of visibility of a beam or rack once it is obstructed by the mast of a forklift. With guidance of the warning pole, a forklift driver is aware of the existing beam or rack from a distance of 20 to 24 feet allowing the driver more than sufficient time to avoid the beam or rack.

The warning pole is easy to install and remove within seconds. No tools are required for installation therefore diminishes assembling labor and its connected costs. No ongoing maintenance is required. Concluding the benefits and advantages of the features of the warning pole as mentioned above, I find my invention is the most efficient and affordable safety aid to prevent warehouse forklift accidents before they happen.

Other than as a visual warehouse beam protector and racking protector, the warning pole may also be applied as an emergency roadside safety aid. It is very dangerous for the driver staying at the scene if something happened on the road at night, such as car accident, vehicle break down or roadside delivery, while other drivers cannot see him or her in the dark. Under these situations, the warning pole may be attached to the body of a vehicle to keep other drivers alert. It can potentially help to save lives and avoid collisions.
