Abstract:
Water absorbing resin particles 10a have a gel surface elasticity of 0.35 to 2.00 N as measured by steps (1)-(5). (1) A container that has a concave section having an opening that opens in the vertical direction is used to prepare a swollen gel, where the gel is swollen 30 times the original amount of the absorbent resin particles in the concave section. (2) A flat surface of a jig is brought into contact with the gel such that the flat surface contacts the surface of the gel in the vertical direction. (3) The jig is pressed against the gel in the vertical direction by 1 mm, and is subsequently retracted by 0.5 mm to obtain the maximum load and the minimum load applied to the jig during this operation. (4) The jig is pressed against gel in the vertical direction by 0.5 mm and is retracted by 0.5 mm, and this operation is repeated twice, to obtain the maximum load and the minimum load applied to the jig during each of the operations. (5) The average of the maximum loads and the average of the minimum loads obtained in step (3) and step (4) are calculated, and the difference therebetween is the gel surface elasticity.
