Abstract:
The invention relates to a water-cooled, multicylinder internal combustion engine, comprising a crank housing and cooling channels that surround the cylinders and that are impinged upon with a coolant via a pump in a cooling circuit (small cooling circuit), with a thermostat being provided in a housing for switching to a big cooling circuit with a radiator. The thermostat housing consists of an upper part provided with coolant supplies and a lower part that is preferably integrated in the crankcase. The invention is especially characterized in that in the lower part of the thermostat housing an insert is inserted that has at least one opening controlled by the thermostat valve to control the small and the big cooling circuit.
