Abstract:
This water injection pump comprises: a water discharge passage configured so as to connect to a water injection pipe connected to a fuel injection valve in a cylinder; a water piston that pressurizes water inside the water discharge passage and discharges the water to the fuel injection valve side; a safety valve arranged between the water discharge passage and a water injection pipe along the piston axis of the water piston and having an internal passage that connects to the water injection pipe; and a drain passage that connects from the safety valve to outside the water injection pump. The safety valve is in a closed state whereby the internal passage is blocked relative to the drain passage; water that is pressurized by the water piston is guided from the water discharge passage towards the water injection pipe, along the internal passage; the safety valve opens as a result of the pressure of the backflow from the fuel injection valve; and the backflow is guided from the internal passage along the drain passage, so as to be discharged to outside the water injection pump.
