An embodiment of the present disclosure is a water level detection device for detecting the water level of a liquid contained in a container which is inductively heated by means of an inductive heating apparatus. The water level detection device of the embodiment is provided with: an ultrasound sensor; a timer unit; a computing unit; and a sensor-side communication unit. The ultrasound sensor includes a transmit unit which transmits ultrasound as a transmitted wave, and a receive unit which receives reflected ultrasound as a reflected wave. The timer unit measures the time width between the point in time at which the transmitted wave was transmitted by the transmit unit to the point in time at which the reflected wave was received by the receive unit. The computing unit computes the distance between the ultrasound sensor and the liquid on the basis of the time width measured by the timer unit. The sensor-side communication unit communicates with the inductive heating apparatus. Specifically, the sensor-side communication unit receives a timing signal transmitted by the inductive heating apparatus. The computing unit computes the distance in accordance with the timing signal. According to the embodiment, the quantity of food can be accurately detected during cooking.
