Abstract:
A water-retentive ceramic consisting of a sintered porous ceramic, wherein pores having pore diameters of 1 to 100μm account for 53 to 70% of the whole volume of the ceramic; a process for the production of the ceramic, which comprises the step of dry-blending a ceramic raw material with alumina cement and a powdery water-absorbing polymer, adding water to the blend, mixing the blend with the water, and then subjecting the obtained mixture to forming, drying and firing; and a water-retentive structure formed by spreading the ceramic over a building or the ground.  Provided are a water-retentive ceramic which has a high water-holding capacity, excellent vaporizability of contained water, and high cooling effect resulting from the latent heat of vaporization of water, a process for the production of same, and a water-retentive structure using the ceramic.
