Abstract:
A water softener including: soft-water tanks (3, 5) where raw water containing a hardness component is softened with a weakly acidic cation exchange resin (33) to yield acidic soft water; neutralization tanks (4, 6) where the pH of the acidic soft water sent from the soft-water tanks (3, 5) is heightened to a neutral value with a weakly basic anion exchange resin (34) to yield neutralized soft water; and a control unit (15) for controlling a regeneration step in which the weakly acidic cation exchange resin (33) and/or the weakly basic anion exchange resin (34) is regenerated. The control unit (15) is equipped with an adsorption amount determination part for determining the amount of the hardness component adsorbed in the soft-water tanks (3, 5) from the hardness of the raw water, the amount of the raw water introduced into the soft-water tanks (3, 5), and the hardness of the water having been sent from the soft-water tanks (3, 5), and controls the regeneration step so that, on the basis of the amount of the adsorbed hardness component determined by the adsorption amount determination part, the regeneration step is continued when the amount of the adsorbed hardness component is not less than a reference value and is terminated when the amount of the adsorbed hardness component is less than the reference value.
