Abstract:
A wave machine that produces different shapes of standing, parabolic shaped waveforms used by surfers. The parabolic waveforms have different face angles and depths. The machine includes a rotating container partially filled with a fluid. When the container is rotated, a standing, parabolic waveform is created in the fluid. In one embodiment, the container is bowl container with curved panels and terminate at an upper edge. On or near the upper edge of the sidewall is an upper flange that partially extends into the bowl container. The bowl container is coupled to a speed adjustable drive mechanism. As the bowl container is rotated, fluid is forced outward against the sidewall and forms a parabolic waveform. As the speed of rotation is increased, the fluid flows upward over the sidewall and against the upper flange. The thickness, depth and face of parabolic waveform adjacent to the sidewall are increased.
