Abstract:

A wave plate for laser optical systems using a film containing a draw-oriented cyclic olefin resin, wherein the value of formula (a): Re(&lgr )/&lgr where &lgr is the wavelength (nm) of a laser beam and Re(&lgr ) is the retardation value (nm) of the laser beam having passed through the wave plate is (0.2 to 0.3)+X (where X is an integral multiple of 0 or 0.5) to a first laser beam and the value is (0.8 to 1.2)+Y (where Y is an integer of 0 or more) to a second laser beam having a wavelength different from that of the first laser beam. The wave plate is excellent in initial characteristics, hardly influenced by the use environment and production environment, excellent in long-term reliability, and applicable to optical information recording/reproduction adapted to two laser beam having different wavelengths.
