Abstract:
A waveguide integrated optical modulator and a preparation method therefor, used to actively modulate a pulsed laser, and to resolve the issue in which optical modulators have a limited range of applications. The waveguide integrated optical modulator comprises: an optical waveguide (1) integrally provided with a fiber core (11), wherein the optical waveguide (1) is provided within a cavity (12), and the cavity (12) separates the fiber core (11) into two sections; a saturable absorber (2) covering an inner wall of the cavity (12) and having two sides in contact with the two sections of the fiber core (11); at least two electrodes (3) arranged on the two sides of the saturable absorber (2); and a power source (4) arranged on one side of the optical waveguide (1), the power source (4) being electrically connected to the electrodes (3); the saturable absorber (2) is a metal-like material having characteristics of a semiconductor. The saturable absorber (2) can be regulated by changing the voltage of the power supply (4), so as to increase the applications of optical modulators in working environments of incident light having different wavelengths, thereby expanding the application range of optical modulators.
