Abstract:
Conventionally, waveguide-type optical switch circuits have a problem such that it is not easy to achieve both a reduction in the time required for switching and switching back, and a reduction in power consumption. This waveguide-type optical switch circuit according to one embodiment is provided with: a waveguide that comprises a clad layer laminated on a substrate and a waveguide core embedded in said clad layer; a heater that is located above the waveguide core and formed on the upper surface of the clad layer; and a groove that has a surface parallel to a side surface of the waveguide core and that has the clad layer removed therefrom in the direction vertical to the substrate. The waveguide-type optical switch circuit is designed such that distance X between the waveguide core and the heater is equal to or longer than distance Y between the heater and the groove (X≥Y).
