Abstract:
The present invention relates to a process for producing a waxy composition, characterized by causing a fatty acid composition to undergo decarboxylation dimerization and then causing the obtained aliphatic ketones to undergo hydrodeoxidization, the fatty acid composition being composed of fatty acids in which (1) the content of linear fatty acids is 30-100 mass% relative to the total mass of all fatty acids or (2) the content of linear fatty acids is 25-30 mass%, excluding 30 mass%, relative to the total mass of all fatty acids and the fatty acid composition either containing no branched fatty acid that has two or three carboxylic acids and is liquid at 25ºC or containing the branched fatty acid in an amount below a detection limit. According to the invention, it is possible to provide a hydrocarbon composition which, as compared with existing hydrocarbon compositions, is reduced in the content of impurities, i.e., the components other than the objective components, is excellent in terms of moldability, stability, releasability, water repellency, waterproofing property, and antiblocking property, and is reduced in environmental burden. A process for producing the hydrocarbon composition can also be provided.
