Abstract:
Provided are: a weak light detection system which, with a simple configuration, allows targeted weak light to be detected at a high S/N ratio; and a weak light detection method. The weak light detection system comprises: an excitation light projection unit which projects excitation light onto a test piece using an excitation light projection pattern that has been modulated by an error correction code sequence obtained by applying an error correction code encoding scheme to a prescribed transmission information sequence; a light-receiving unit which receives light excited at the test piece by the excitation light; a received light code sequence identifying unit which identifies a received light code sequence on the basis of a change in received light intensity at the light-receiving unit; and a signal processing unit which applies an error correction code decoding scheme to the received light code sequence to obtain a decoded information sequence, compares the transmission information sequence and the decoded information sequence, and determines that there has been light emission, from the test piece, corresponding to the excitation light projection pattern in a case where the transmission information sequence and the decoded information sequence match each other.
