Disclosed are an apparatus and a method for producing an aqueous hypochlorous acid solution without requiring the use of any acid and without generating substantially no chlorine gas. Specifically disclosed are: a method for producing weakly acidic hypochlorous acid, which involves a step of treating a hypochlorous acid salt solution with a weakly acidic ion exchanger; an apparatus for producing weakly acidic hypochlorous acid, which involves a weakly acidic ion exchanger; a container for producing weakly acidic hypochlorous acid, which contains calcium hypochlorite and a weakly acidic ion exchanger capable of exhibiting a buffering activity at a pH at which a chlorine gas is generated or higher; and weakly acidic hypochlorous acid produced by the method.
