Provided are a weighing unit which is compact and has improved response, and a combination scale which uses the weighing unit. This weighing unit comprises: an installation and affixation member having a vertical section (17a); a load cell (15) formed by applying strain gages on an elastic body (15E) which has a stationary section (15a) disposed on one side of the vertical section (17a) and affixed to a vertical surface (17Vf) and which also has a movable section (15b) facing the stationary section (15a); a weighing hopper (14) disposed on the opposite side of the vertical section (17a) from the load cell (15) and having a discharge gate (14g); a connection member (20) having one end which is affixed to the movable section (15b) and the other end to which a hopper holding section for holding the weighing hopper (14) is provided, the hopper holding section comprising a receiving section (36a) and a protrusion section (35), the connection member (20) being configured so as to extend from the one end to the other end thereof toward below the elastic body (15E); and a gate opening/closing mechanism section (33) installed on the connection member (20).
