Title:
WET PROCESS CHOPPED FIBER MAT PRODUCTION
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO2003074785
Kind Code:
A3
Abstract:
The invention concerns a method for making a mat with chopped fibers useful for reinforcing thermosetting resins. The method comprises a step which consists in dispersing in white water chopped and dried fibers after they have been oiled with an oiling liquid containing an organosilane and a tackifier, then a step which consists in forming a web by passing the dispersion on a forming fabric through which the process water is drained, the fibers being retained in said fabric, then a step which consists in applying a binder, followed by a heat treatment step. Chopped fiber mats with uniform surface mass generally ranging between 50 and 1100 g/m<2> are obtained. The cut fibers hardly lose their filament texture within the mat.
