Title:
WET-PROCESS NONWOVEN FABRIC AND ULTRAFINE POLYESTER FIBERS THEREFOR
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO/1990/004666
Kind Code:
A1
Abstract:
Polyester fibers of type A having a single yarn fineness of up to 1 denier are obtained by melt-spinning a copolyester of an intrinsic viscosity of 0.35 to 0.50 containing 0.5 to 7 mol % of a sodium 5-sulfoisophthalate component and 0.5 to 10 mol % of an isophthalic acid component and having main repeating units of ethylene terephthalate to obtain a nonstretched filament, and flow-stretching it with a draw ratio of 5 or more. Polyester fibers of type B are obtained by neck-stretching the type A fibers. Polyester fibers of type C are obtained by subjecting the type B fibers to limited shrinkage treatment. Nonwoven fabric is obtained by cutting at least one of these fibers to a length of up to 15 mm and, if necessary, compounding the cut fibers with other fibers such as regular type polyester fibers, wood pulp or glass fibers in an amount of 10 wt.% or more, and making a sheet therefrom by the wet process. The obtained nonwoven fabric has a soft hand and a uniform weave and is improved in strength and elongation.
