Abstract:
Provided is a wheel bearing device that improves the press-in properties of a protective cover and increases the airtightness of a fitting section, and has increased reliability of quality and increased workability in the production and conveyance steps for the protective cover. The protective cover (10) is provided with a fitting section (10a) having the shape of a circular tube and pressed into an outer member (2), a circular-plate-shaped shielding section (10b) extending inwards in the radial direction, and a bottom section (10d). The fitting section is configured from a circular tube section (17) at the circular-tube-shaped fitting surface (2c) of an outer member, and a circular-tube-shaped reduced-diameter section (18) extending in the axial direction therefrom. An elastic member (19) comprising a synthetic rubber is integrally joined to the reduced-diameter section by means of vulcanization adhesion, and the elastic member is provided with: an annular protrusion (19a) that protrudes outwards in the radial direction with respect to the outer diameter of the circular tube section (17); and a contact lip (19b) that extends inclined outwards in the radial direction at the outside of the bearing. When fitted, the annular protrusion is pressure joined to the fitting surface (2c) of the outer member by means of elastic deformation, and the contact lip elastically contacts a chamfered section (2d) of the outer member.
