Abstract:
The present invention provides: a wholly aromatic polyester which has excellent heat resistance and hydrolysis resistance; and a polyester resin composition. A wholly aromatic polyester according to the present invention comprises constituent units (II), (III) and (IV), while optionally comprising a constituent unit (I), and exhibits optical anisotropy when melted. With respect to all constituent units of this wholly aromatic polyester, the content of the constituent unit (I) is 0 to 30% by mole; the content of the constituent unit (II) is 15 to 45% by mole; the content of the constituent unit (III) is 27.5 to 40% by mole; the content of the constituent unit (IV) is 27.5 to 40% by mole; and the total of the contents of the constituent units (I) to (IV) is 100% by mole. In the formulae, each of Ar1 and Ar2 independently represents an arylene group.
