Description:
WINCH RODS ON WHEEL AND METHOD OF RECOVERING MOTOR VEHICLES FROM LOW-GRIP LANDS

The invention relates to a device which includes rods engaged on bolts or nuts of at least one wheel of a motor vehicle and a textile cable, wound on the bodies of the rods, and also relates to some methods for recovering a vehicle from low-adherent land such as snow, ice or mud, the solution being applicable in the automotive industry.

Solutions are known for situations in which the drive wheels of a vehicle remain immobilized by loss of adherence in areas of mud, sand or snow, without providing the necessary traction for the vehicle to travel by its own means.

A solution applicable in such situations relates to towing the immobilized vehicle by another vehicle to an area where the drive wheels will have sufficient adherence to further move the vehicle out of the low-grip zone. The disadvantage of this solution lies in the fact that the vehicle called to provide assistance must be specially equipped so as not to risk being, in its turn, immobilized in that low-adherent land. Another disadvantage is that, during recovery operations, one or both of the vehicles may be affected by uncontrollable landslides and knocking of decoration elements. Another solution is the use of a specialized winch - usually with electric drive, independent of the motor vehicle's immobilized vehicle - but the disadvantage of this solution is that, due to the heavy weight and the technical difficulties involved in the installation of a dedicated winch, such devices are not fitted to ordinary vehicles and are only used by vehicles specially prepared for off-road driving. There are also known short-haul solutions for the vehicles by the use of drums attached, if necessary, to the wheels of vehicles, by means of supports fixed permanently on the vehicle's driving wheels (AU2002323890B1 , WO2005095257A1). These solutions have several drawbacks: they can only be used on certain vehicle models; some devices allow towing only in the forward direction; requires the lifting of the vehicle on the jack or the lift and the complete dismantling of each of the wheels on which the support brackets are installed, which, after being fixed to the wheels, are prone to accidental deformation by striking decor elements such as stones, grooves, pits or edges, which make them difficult or impossible to use when needed.

The object of invention is simplifying the recovery of motor vehicles, regardless of their brand and model, from low-adhesion fields by using their own driving force, using simple devices, easy to be carried, mounted and dismantled, which are not affected during vehicle's running.

The technical problem solved by the invention consists in obtaining a winch type device on one or more motor wheels of the vehicle with a reduced dimension and low weight detachable in an intuitive way that facilitates its fitting on and easy removal from the wheel of the vehicle.

Winch rods on wheel according to the invention overcomes the drawbacks of the known solutions in that, for a motor vehicle, on a drive wheel located on a low-adherent land, at least three of the studs or nuts which secure the wheel to the axle, will be replaced with studs 1, respectively nuts 2 according to the invention; a stud 1 has at one end an outer thread 3 specific to the vehicle model on which it is used and at the other end has an inner thread 4 of dimensions corresponding to an outer thread 6 on one end of some rods 7; a nut 2 has at one end an inner thread 5 specific to the vehicle model on which it is used and at the other end has an inner thread 4 of a size corresponding to an outer thread 6 on the end of rods 7 which will be screwed into inner thread 4 inside the ends of the studs 1 or the nuts 2; over the bodies of the rods 7 will be wound one end of a towing textile cable 8, which anchors at its other end to a tree or other nearby fixed object situated approximately in the direction towards which the vehicle has to be moved; optionally, if in the direction of the vehicle's motion, the towing textile cable 8 passes next to another wheel on the same side of the vehicle, on that wheel a bolt or nut of those that secures the wheel on the axle will be replaced with a stud 1 or nut 2 according to the invention and in if s inner thread 4 will be screwed an outer thread 6 of corresponding dimensions placed on a rod 9 having at its other end a guide bearing 10 rotating freely around longitudinal axis of the rod 9 on which it is fastened, and by the guide bearing 10 is passed the towing textile cable 8 before being anchored to a nearby fixed object, so the use of rod 9 with guide bearing 10 allows the vehicle's recovery either forward, or in its reverse (gear) direction.

Method of recovering motor vehicles from low-grip lands according to the invention, eliminates the disadvantages of the known solutions in that, after the installation of a winch comprising rods 7 on a driving wheel of a vehicle which is not able to move the vehicle due to its low grip, the rotation movement will wrap the towing textile cable 8 on the rods bodies 7, and thus the tension force manifested in towing textile cable 8 makes the vehicle to move, and at the same time, the opposite wheel on the respective motorized axle is also driven; if, following the installation of a winch comprising rods 7 on one of the wheels, the vehicle still not advances because the opposite wheel is spinning without enough grip to move the vehicle, a winch comprising rods 7 will be set on the other wheel on the same motorized axle as well, so that the tension forces occurring inside those two towing textile cables 8 will determine the vehicle to move.

Winch rods on wheel and method of recovering motor vehicles from low-grip lands according to the invention, has the following advantages:

- can be used on any road vehicle model;

- low difficulty for installing the device;

- does not require the complete removal of the wheel for installation;

- vehicle recovery time is reduced.

- the cost of the device is much lower compared to the known solutions;

- the simplicity of the solution determines an increased reliability;

- the invention is widely applicable in the field of transport. We further show two preferred embodiments for a winch on rods and four preferred applications of the method for recovering vehicles from low-adhesion land according to the invention and in connection with:

Fig.1. - stud 1 with inner thread 4 at the free end;

Fig.2. - nut 2 with inner threads 4, 5 of different sizes;

Fig.3. - longitudinal section through stud 1 with inner thread 4 at free end;

Fig.4. - longitudinal section through nut 2 with different inner threads 4, 5;

Fig.5. - winch rod 7;

Fig.6. - rod 9 with guide bearing 10;

Fig.7. - longitudinal section through rod 9 with guide bearing 10;

Fig.8. - direct towing on a driving wheel;

Fig.9. - guided recovery on interposed wheel in the towing direction.

Example 1. For a motor vehicle with wheels fitted with studs, on a drive wheel located on a low-adhesion land, three of the studs which fix the wheel on the axle, are replaced witti studs 1 according to invention; a stud 1 of 50mm length with hexagonal 19mm profile has at its end an outer thread 3 having specific length, diameter and pitch of the vehicle model on which it is used and at the other end has an inner thread 4 sized 12 x ,5; a rod 7 of 170mm length with a hexagonal 19mm profile has at one end an external thread 3 sized M12 x 1,5 which is screwed into a stud 1; over the bodies of the rods 7 mounted on a wheel, is wrapped an end of a 15m synthetic-fibre textile towing cable 8 being anchored at its other end of a tree or other nearby fixed object, located approximately in the direction where the vehicle has to move; optionally, if towards the direction of vehicle's moving, towing textile cable 8 passes next to another wheel on the same side of the vehicle, on that wheel a bolt is replaced with a bolt 1 according to invention, and in its inner thread 4 is screwed an outer threaded end 6 of a rod 9 having at its free end a guide bearing 10 that rotates easily around longitudinal axis of the rod 9 on which it is fastened, and the towing textile cable 8 is threaded through guide bearing 10, before being anchored of a nearby fixed object, therefore the use of rod 9 with guide bearing 10 allows vehicle's recovery either forward, or in its reverse (gear) direction. Example 2. For a motor vehicle with wheels fitted with nuts, on a drive wheel located on a low-adhesion land, three of the nuts which fix the wheel on the axle, are replaced with nuts 2 according to invention; a nut 2 of 50mm length with hexagonal 19mm profile has at its end an outer thread 5 having specific length, diameter and pitch of the vehicle model on which it is used and at the other end has an inner thread 4 sized 12 x 1,5; a rod 7 of 170mm length with a hexagonal 19mm profile has at one end an external thread 6 sized M12 x 1,5 which is screwed into a nut 2; over the bodies of the rods 7 mounted on a wheel, is wrapped an end of a 15m synthetic-fibre textile towing cable 8 being anchored at its other end of a tree or other nearby fixed object, located approximately in the direction where the vehicle has to move; optionally, if towards the direction of vehicle's moving, towing textile cable 8 passes next to another wheel on the same side of the vehicle, on that wheel a nut is replaced with a nut 2 according to invention, and in its inner thread 4 is screwed an outer threaded end 6 of a rod 9 having at its free end a guide bearing 10 that rotates easily around longitudinal axis of the rod 9 on which it is fastened, and the towing textile cable 8 is threaded through guide bearing 10, before being anchored of a nearby fixed object, therefore the use of rod 9 with guide bearing 10 allows vehicle's recovery either forward, or in its reverse (gear) direction.

Example 3. Method for recovering vehicles from low-grip lands for a front- axle driven vehicle and forward towing recovery, according to which after installing a rod winch comprising rods 7 described in Example 1 or Example 2, on one of the front wheels of the vehicle that can not move due to reduced grip, the rotation motion will wrap the towing textile cable 8 on the bodies of rods 7, thus the tension force manifested inside towing textile cable 8 causes the vehicle to move, and at the same time, the opposite wheel on the respective motorized axle is also driven.

Example 4. Method for recovering vehicles from low-grip lands for a front- axle driven vehicle and forward towing recovery, according to which after installing a rod winch comprising rods 7 described in Example 3, the vehicle still not advances because the opposite wheel is spinning without enough grip to move the vehicle, a winch comprising rods 7 will be set on the other wheel of the same motorized axle as well, so that the tension forces occurring inside those two towing textile cables 8 will determine the vehicle to move.

Example 5. Method for recovering vehicles from low-grip lands for a rear- axle driven vehicle and forward towing recovery, according to which after installing a rod winch with rods 7 described in Example 1 or Example 2, on one of the rear wheels of the vehicle that can not move the vehicle due to reduced grip, and on the front wheel on the same side of the vehicle is mounted a rod 9 having at the free end a guide bearing 10 that rotates easily around longitudinal axis of the rod 9 on which it is fastened, and the towing textile cable 8 wrapped on the rods 7 on the rear wheel passes through the guide bearing 10 of the rod 9 on the front wheel before it is anchored of a nearby fixed object; the rotation motion will wrap the towing textile cable 8 on the bodies of rods 7, thus the tension force manifested inside towing textile cable 8 causes the vehicle to be displaced, while the direction of moving is kept by means of the rod 9 with guide bearing 10 of the front wheel, and at the same time, the opposite wheel on the rear axle is also driven.

Example 6. Method for recovering vehicles from low-grip lands for a rear- axle driven vehicle and forward towing recovery, according to which after installing of a winch with rods 7 on a rear wheel and of a rod 9 with a guide bearing 10 on the front wheel on the same side, as described in Example 5, the vehicle still not advances because the opposite wheel on the rear axle is spinning without enough grip to move the vehicle, a winch with rods 7 will be set on the other wheel of the same motorized axle, as well as a rod 9 with a guide bearing 10 on the front wheel on the respective side, so that the tension forces manifested inside those two towing textile cables 8 will determine the vehicle to move, while the direction of moving is kept by means of the rod 9 with guide bearing 10 of the front wheels.

The examples described above represents only particular embodiments of the invention, which is not limited to these para ' cularisations, the broader applicability of the disclosed technical solution being clear to a person skilled in the art.
