Title:
WINDING OF STRIP MATERIAL
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO2002026608
Kind Code:
A3
Abstract:
A method of continuously winding a strip (S) from a web (11) includes forwarding a web (11) from a supply (10), separating the web (11) longitudinally into a plurality of strips (S), and transporting each of the strips (S) to a winding station (13). At each winding station (13), the strip (S) is wound onto a core into a cylindrical package in which the strip (S) is traversed axially of the core while wrapping around the core. While the web (11) continues to be forwarded and separated into strips (S), winding of packages continues while the strip (S) is transferred from a wound package to an empty core. The feeding and transport system can use an air flow to direct and transfer the strip along a duct between stations with the strip (S) being withdrawn from the duct by a transverse air permeable conveyer formed by parallel belts. The strip (S) is cut by a transverse die cutter blade which rotates on a support about an axis transverse to the strip (S) and accelerates into strip speed. The winding station (13) is self threading and transfer can occur at any time even on a web break. The empty core on its holder after winding has commenced is moved and transferred to a wound package holder on which winding continues. By this arrangement, the assembly can automatically run to continuously feed the web (11) to form a series of packages of wound strips (S).
