Description:
Window construction for an inclined roof

The invention relates to a window construction for an inclined roof . The construction comprises a frame with an top edge delimiting an embrasure, a window belonging to the frame, which window is formed with a window pane set in a sash, and which is arranged for being turned about a mainly horizontal axis between a closing position, where the window covers the embrasure, and open positions, where the embrasure is more or less free, and a bearing arrangement which turnable connects the sash with the frame and which defines said horizontal axis of turning.

Window constructions for inclined roofs have been used for many years and typically as top-hinged windows.

The bearing arrangements of these window constructions are however quite bulky and prominent and they therefore disfigure the overall impression of an otherwise architectonically beautiful building.

The known bearing arrangements have furthermore a complicated and costly construction resulting in that their window sashes are difficult and strenuous to mount and remove again from the respective frames.

The bearing arrangements are moreover not to a satisfactory degree secured against that their window sashes are loosened from the frame, which can be extremely dangerous, as the window constructions usually are placed at a relatively large height.

The bearing arrangements are in addition to this not adapted to allow the window frames safely to turn such a large angle in relation to the frames that the outside of the windows without difficulties can be cleaned from the inside. Besides, it has appeared that the bearing arrangements and/or the sash arrangements are not sufficiently tightto safely secure against that water penetrating into the building, when the window is closed.

The drawbacks and disadvantages of the above-mentioned window constructions for inclined roofs are according to the invention remedied by, In a first aspect, according to the invention, providing a bearing arrangement for a window construction of the kind mentioned in the opening paragraph, which is arranged to give a building with an inclined roof an architectonically beautiful overall impression, when mounted on the roof,

In a second aspect according to the invention providing a bearing arrangement for a window construction of the kind mentioned in the opening paragraph, which has a simple and cheap construction.

In a third aspect according to the invention providing a bearing arrangement for a window construction of the kind mentioned in the opening paragraph, which efficiently secure the window sash against loosening from the frame.

In a forth aspect according to the invention providing a bearing arrangement for a window construction of the kind mentioned in the opening paragraph, which is arranged to safely allowing the window frame to turn in such a large angle in relation to the frame, that the outside of the window without difficulties can be cleaned from the inside.

In a fifth aspect according to the invention providing a bearing arrangement for a window construction of the kind mentioned in the opening paragraph, which in the closed position is tight against penetrating of rainwater. The novel and unique features according to the invention whereby this is achieved consists in the fact that the bearing arrangement of the window construction mentioned in the opening paragraph comprises a bearing bush which is placed upon or integrated with the inner side of the frame and a mainly disc shaped axle segment which is placed in the sash or is integrated with the sash and which turnable is resting in the bearing bush.

In this version of the bearing arrangement is the disc-shaped axis segment placed mainly vertically above the bearing bush, whereby advantageously an extremely compact and narrow bearing arrangement is achieved.

Thereby the window construction as well as a building with an inclined roof is given an architectonically beautiful and harmonious overall impression, when the window construction is mounted on the roof .

The bearing arrangement achieves moreover a simple and cheap construction, which further allows the window to be turned so much that its outer side is accessible from the inside and therefore easily can be cleaned.

The construction according to the invention can preferably also be used for renovating old roofs.

The unique construction of the bearing arrangement moreover results in that the window construction in its closing position is tight against penetrating of e.g. rainwater.

The frame and sash of the window construction is advantageously, at least partly, covered by at least one covering and the axle segment is integrated with or attached upon this at least one covering. In this way is a particularly solid construction is achieved, which secure against penetrating of rainwater. The covering can advantageously be composed of an upper and a lower covering. According to a preferred embodiment of the invention the part of the frame which is placed above the axis of the bearing arrangement, seen in the plane of the window, can be equipped with an upper covering, which in the closing position of the window is at least partly covering the opposite part of the sash, and that part of the sash which is placed below the axis of the bearing arrangement can be equipped with a lower covering which in the closing position of the window is covering the opposite part of the top edge of the frame whereby an elegant and stylish construction is achieved.

The lower and/or upper covering can preferably be formed with each their extension that preferably overlaps each other when the window is closed. The upper and lower covering of the window construction can flush with each other when the window is closed and be formed with each their extension, which overlaps each other, whereby it is prevented that water from snow and rain penetrates into the interior of the window via the bearing arrangement .

Each of the continuations of the coverings can as an example have half the thickness of the rest of the respective coverings . The extension of the lower covering can in an advantageous embodiment according to the invention extend underneath the extension of the upper covering, so that the penetrating of water at the assembling is prevented when the window is closed. The frame of the window construction can according to the invention furtherover be formed with a cut-out section outgoing from the top edge of the frame and limited by a curved surface upon which the bearing bush is resting. The bearing arrangement thereby achieves an extremely compact construction and the window construction in its entirety a beautiful appearance that naturally will be part of the roof covering of the inclined roof .

According to the invention can the axle segment furthermore be formed with a circumferential slot and the bearing bush with a key, which engages with the slot. Hereby is achieved a double security against that the window sash is loosened from the frame at the risk of having the sash falling down from the roof and causing damage to material and injuries to people. When the slot is arranged with an opening which allows the key to pass into the slot, the can sash easily and comfortable be turnable connected with and if required removed again from the frame so that the embrasure of the frame in the latter mentioned case can serve as escape route in an emergency.

The axle segment is thus advantageously formed with a circumferential slot and the bearing bush with a key, which engages with the slot, whereby it doubly is secured that the axle segment and the bearing bush are in engagement when the window is used.

The slot is connected with the bearing bush by means of an upper projection. The bearing bush has moreover a lower projection that is mounted on the inner side of the frame by means of for example screws. Alternatively can the bearing bush be integrated with the frame.

The slot of the axle segment can furthermore be arranged with a mouth that allows passage of the key of the bearing bush such that the window easily and securely can be mounted on the frame . In order to prevent that the window is turned further than the predetermined angle from the closing position of the window, the window construction according to the invention can moreover comprise a stop for preventing that the axle segment of the sash disengages the bearing bush of the frame when the window of the window construction is opened, such that there could be a risk for that the window is fell down from the roof.

When the axis of the bearing arrangement is arranged in a distance from the bottom of the frame of a size in between 50% to 90% of the height of the frame, access can according to the invention, at least when the window is in the totally open position, be achieved comfortably and untroubled to the exterior of the windowpane, while at the same time the center of gravity of the window will be placed below the axis and the window therefore automatically will turn the axle segment in relation to the bearing bush towards the closed position influenced by the gravitation.

According to the invention can the axis of the bearing arrangement be placed at a distance above the top edge of the frame, whereby assembly and disassembly of the keys and slots advantageously can be done with the window in a comfortable angular position with respect to the frame.

The invention will be explained in greater detail below, giving further advantageous features and technical effects and describing exemplary embodiments with reference to the drawing, in which

Fig. 12 shows the bearing arrangement with the window in closed position. The window construction shown in the figures comprises partly a frame 3, which has a mainly rectangular shape with two sides, which define the width of the frame, and a top and bottom, which define the height of the frame, and partly a window 5, which similarly has a mainly rectangular shape with two sides, which define the width of the window and a top and bottom, which define the height of the window.

Figs. 1 and 2 show the window construction placed on an inclined roof of which only the lath 2 of the roof . can be seen.

The frame 3 of the window construction is formed with a flange 4, which is supported by and attached to the laths 2 and the window 5 has a windowpane, which is set in a sash 7.

The sash 7 and consequently the window 5 are turnable abou a horizontal turning axis 8 connected with the frame 3 in a way that later will be more definite described. The axis is placed on a level with the upper half of the frame.

In fig. 1 is the window closed and in fig. 2 open. The window covers as best seen in fig. 2 an embrasure 9 limited by a top edge 10 on the frame 3. An upper covering 13 with a top 14 and two sides 15 is placed on top of the frame 3 and a lower covering 16 with a bottom 17 and two sides 18 is placed on the window 5.

Fig. 3 shows, seen from the front, another embodiment for a window construction according to the invention corresponding in the main to the construction shown in figs. 1 and 2. Same reference numbers are therefore used for like parts.

The window 5 is turnable connected with frame 3 about the horizontal turning axis 8 via a bearing arrangement 19, which is placed on each side of the window 5 and which in the figure is shown with dotted line.

Fig. 4 shows fragmentarily a section taken along the line IV - IV in fig. 3, and fig. 5 shows the same section as in fig. 3 but with some parts removed so that a first embodiment for a bearing arrangement is seen.

The window is in figs. 4 and 5 closed. The upper covering 13 on the frame extends across the window sash and the lower covering 16 on the frame of the window extends across the top edge 10 of the frame .

The window construction is arranged in such a way that the window can turn about the horizontal axis 8 between the closing position shown in figs. 4 and 5 and open positions shown in fig. 6. That is possible because the window has a smaller extension than the embrasure of the frame. In fig. 7 is the window in a position, where the bearing arrangement nearly is out of engagement.

In this position the window can be removed from the frame so that the embrasure of the frame can be used as an escape route in case of for example fire, or the window can alternatively be in process of being connected to the frame.

Fig. 8 shows a fragment of an embodiment for the bearing arrangement 19 according to the invention seen in a cross section of the window construction placed below the horizontal turning axis 8.

The bearing arrangement 19, which is positioned on each side of the window construction, serves for turnable to connect the sash and the frame and comprises for that purpose a disc shaped axle segment 36, which is placed in or is integrated with the sash and is adapted for turnable being engaged with a bearing bush 34 , which is placed upon or integrated with the frame .

The axis segment is, as it can be seen, resting in the bearing bush in position above this such that the bearing arrangement becomes extremely compact and narrow and the window construction and thereby a building with an inclined roof achieves an architectonically fine and harmonious overall impression, when the window construction is mounted on the roof.

The axle segment is furthermore formed with a circumferential slot 35 and the bearing bush 34 with a key 40 which engages with the slot 35, whereby it doubly is secured that the axle segment and the bearing bush are in engagement when the window is used

The slot is connected with the bearing bush by means of an upper protrusion 29. In addition, the bearing bush has a lower protrusion, which is mounted on the inner side of the frame by for example screws. Alternatively, can the bearing bush be integrated with the frame

The slot 35 of the axle segment is furthermore formed with a mouth 38, which allows passage of the key 40 of the bearing bush such that the window easily and securely can be mounted upon the frame .

As shown in fig. 9 is the frame 3 formed with a cut-out section 30, outgoing from the top edge 10 of the frame 3 and limited by a curved surface 31 upon which the bearing bush 34 (not shown) is turnable resting when being placed on the surface.

In fig. 9 it is further seen that the cut-out section 30 and the top edge 10 of the frame 3 are covered of the upper covering 13 and the lower covering 16, which here is shown in the closed position of the window sash, where the upper and the lower covering 13 and 16 are flush with each other such that the coverings are extending in continuation of each other. The coverings are formed with each their extension 13' and 16', respectively, which extensions in this case are half as thick as the rest of the respective coverings

The extensions of the coverings are overlapping each other when the window is closed, whereby it is prevented that water from snow and rain penetrates down into the cut-out section 30 and from this further into the interior of the window and the roof.

Figs. 10, 11 and 12 show fragmentarily, seen in section from the side, the bearing arrangement 19 shown in fig. 8 and the upper covering 13 and the lower covering 16 shown in that position, which the window construction assumes on an inclined roof . Fig. 10 illustrates that the window is just about to be mounted on the frame. The key 40 of the bearing bush is in this phase present opposite the slot 35 of the axis segment, whereby the key immediately is catching the slot by turning the axle segment such that the window easily and securely can be mounted on the frame.

In fig. 11 the window is partly turned and in fig. 12 is the window totally closed. As shown in figs. 10 - 12 are the coverings 13 and 16 flush with each other.

The two coverings 13 and 16 are in figs. 10 - 12 flush with each other just as in fig. 9 and is also arranged with extensions 13' and 16', respectively, which overlaps each other in order to ensure that they in the closed position of the window prevents that water from snow and rain penetrates into the bearing arrangement .

The window construction is above described and in the drawing shown on the basis of that the construction is for an inclined roof. Within the scope of the invention can the window construction however be adapted for being mounted upon any roof or outer wall of a building.

Within the scope of the invention can the axle segment moreover be placed on frame and the bearing bush on the sash, instead of as mentioned above on the sash and frame, respectively.
