Description:
Wiper, especially wind-screen wiper.

Technical field The technological solution involves wipers, especially for windscreens, comprising a swinging arm and a wiping- bail holder fitted with a rubber wiping bail.

Background of the invention The current normal windscreen-wiper design is arranged so that the wiping effect is secured by a rotational movement of an arm of a rubber wiping-bail holder. The required pressing force between the wiping bail and the wiped glass is usually ensured by a spring mechanism. The wiping bail itself, mounted in the wiping-bail holder, is usually made of rubber and is either straight or slightly rounded. The holder arm is attached to a transmission unit that is connected to a wiper motor.

In case of this rotational movement of the wiping-bail holder arm, the circumferential velocity of points of the wiping bail at the joint points at the ends of the bail is linearly dependent on the distance of such points from the rotation axis of the wiping-bail holder arm. It means that the highest circumferential velocity is at the farther point and the lowest velocity at the closer point. As a consequence of the difference in circumferential velocity along the wiping bail and as a result of centrifugal tangent forces, the wiped liquid is during the movement of the holder arm carried along the edge of the wiping bail to

the place with the highest circumferential velocity where the liquid splashes on the surface of the wiped glass.

This splashing of the wiped liquid creates a distributed layer of water on the surface of the glass that partly limits the view of the driver in marginal areas of his field of vision. The amount of splashed water along a part of the outer perimeter of the sector of the wiped area depends on the velocity of the swinging rotational movement of the wiping mechanism and the volume of the wiped liquid.

It is obvious that these partial limits on the view of the driver in marginal areas of his field of vision constitutes a certain risk of possible omission of an obstacle barring the movement of the vehicle. This danger is imminent, especially in case of driving in heavy rains under reduced visibility, for example at night when, in addition, light coming from vehicles going in the opposite direction is undesirably distorted and diffused by the layer of splashed water.

Summary of the invention The above mentioned problems are to a significant extent removed by wipers, especially for windscreens, comprising a swinging arm and a wiping-bail holder fitted with a wiping bail in accordance with this invention. The basis of this invention is a holder equipped with an ending part from a flexible element at its end farther from the axis of rotation of the swinging arm. Its hardness is at least 20V, lower than that of the wiping bail. The inner surface of the flexible element includes an angle of 80° to 160° with the wiping bail. The surface of the bottom part

of the flexible element is placed at a distance from the wiping-bail holder of 60 to 95% of the distance between the surface of the bottom part of the wiping bail from the wiping-bail holder.

The flexible element has beneficially the shape of a flexible prism or can have the shape of a flexible bail mounted in a self-contained holder.

The flexible element is beneficially made from natural rubber mixed with polyisoprene, polybutadiene, soot and anti-ozonizer, and its Shore hardness is between 44 to 50.

The ending part can be separated from the wiping-bail holder. A sharp crossing or a rounded crossing can be made between the ending part and the wiping bail.

The fact that the hardness of the flexible element is smaller than that of the wiping bail eliminates the possibility that the contact surface of the wiper would be formed by this flexible element and the wiping bail itself would not adhere to the wiped glass along its full length.

The size of the angle between the inner side of the flexible element and the wiping bail is chosen on the basis of the type of the vehicle, particularly most frequent speeds, the type of the wiping bail and the type of the swinging arm. The fact that the surface of the bottom part of the flexible element is located at a distance from the wiping-bail holder of 60 to 95% of the distance of the surface of the bottom part of the wiping bail from the wiping-bail holder enables free movement of the flexible

part of the wiping bail without affecting its effects as compared to wipers of a common design.

If the flexible element has the shape of a flexible prism, it can be made from a soft foam material. In case the flexible element is in the shape of a flexible bail, it has to have similar features as those of the wiping bail but can be produced as one piece together with a self- contained holder or can be attached to this holder as a separate element.

If the flexible element is made of natural rubber imxed with polyisoprene, polybutadiene, soot and anti- ozonizer and its Shore hardness is between 44 to 50, its mechanical features are similar to those of a wiping bail, which results in its durability being similar to that of a normal wiping bail.

Considering that the ending part can be separable from the wiping-bail holder, it is possible to attach these ending parts to used wipers later. As for separable ending parts, a sharp crossing between the flexible element and the wiping bail can be formed for production reasons. As far as new wipers using the specified invention are concerned, this crossing can be rounded.

The mentioned invention increases the efficiency of the wiping effect especially by preventing the splash of the wiped liquid at the end point of the wiping bail on the glass surface within the field of vision of the driver. The wiped liquid cannot splash freely and is fully wiped up to

the marginal positions of the arm and the wiping-bail holder.

Brief description of the drawings Invention will be in greater detail explained on a specific exemplary model of the wiper using the enclosed drawings. Fig. 1 shows a schematic draft of the wiper according to this invention. Fig. 2 shows a schematic axonometric view of the ending part. Fig. 3 shows a side view of this ending part with a part of the wiping-bail holder.

Detailed description of the preferred embodiments An exemplary wiper intended for the windscreen of a car comprises swinging arm 1, wiping-bail holder 2 and wiping bail 3. Ending part 4, formed by flexible element 5 in the shape of flexible prism 6, is fixed to the end of wiping-bail holder 2 farther from the axis of swinging arm 1. Its Shore hardness is 45 and tensile strength 14 MPa.

Its hardness is thus lower than the hardness of wiping bail 3. The inner side of flexible element 5 in the shape of flexible prism 6 includes an angle of 90° with wiping bail 3. The surface of the bottom edge of flexible element 5 is at a distance from holder 2 of 90% of the distance between the surface of the bottom edge of wiping bail 3 and wiping- bail holder 2.

In the next arrangement, flexible element 5 is in the shape of flexible bail 7 located in self-contained holder 8. Flexible bail 7 is made from natural rubber mixed with

polyisoprene, polybutadiene, soot and anti-ozonizer and its Shore hardness is 50. Ending part 4, formed by self- contained holder 8 and flexible element 5, is separable from wiping-bail holder 2. A sharp crossing is formed between ending part 4 and wiping bail 3. The inner side of flexible bail 7 includes an angle of 115° with wiping bail 3.

In another arrangement there is a rounded crossing between ending part 4 and wiping bail 3.

Self-contained holder 8 is formed by a hollow profile whose shape corresponds with wiping-bail holder 2. Inner surfaces of self-contained holder 8 are equipped with denticulation 9 that prevents this self-contained holder 8 from slipping from wiping-bail holder 2.

In case of use of flexible prism 6, this prism is fitted at the end of wiping-bail holder 2 so that its inner side includes an angle of 90° with the wiping bail. During wiping, wiped liquid accumulates in this angle and is only discharged from there in the final position of the wiper, in its reverse movement. This prevents the splash of the liquid on the glass, which in turn increases the wiping efficiency and avoids formation of flat water layers on the glass, limiting visibility from the vehicle.

If flexible bail 7 is used, this bail performs the same function as flexible prism 6.

Ending part 4 can be produced directly as a part of the wiper or it is possible to produce it as a separate part that can be fitted to currently used wipers.

Industrial applications The wiper mentioned in the invention can be primarily used in automobile industry, but also in sea, air and rail transportation.
