Provided is a wire gripper wherein, when a wire-shaped body is being held, wire-gripping parts can be locked separated from each other, and when the wire-shaped body is no longer being held, the wire-gripping parts can be easily unlocked without the use of other tools. A wire tensioner (1) for putting an electric wire (30) under tension comprises a wire gripper (2) at an end of an elongation/contraction shaft (4). A fixed wire-gripping part (8) in which a mating groove (8a) for holding the top of the electric wire (30) is formed is provided on the main body (6) of the wire gripper (2) so as to form a single unit therewith. An actuation part (10) is swingably supported at the bottom of the main body (6), and a control arm (14) that transmits the elongation and contraction of the elongation/contraction shaft (4) is supported at the bottom end of the actuation part (10). A movable wire-gripping part (12) in which an upward-facing mating groove (12a) opposite the abovementioned mating groove (8a) is formed is rotatably attached to the actuation part (10). A guide part (16) that extends downward and guides the control arm (14) is formed on the side of the main body (6) near the elongation/contraction shaft (4). A lock part (18) that can engage and disengage in the up-down direction is provided between the guide part (16) and the control arm (14).
