Abstract:
The present invention is a method for cutting a circularly columnar workpiece by a wire saw for simultaneously cutting the workpiece at a plurality of locations aligned in the axial direction by winding a fixed abrasive wire around a plurality of grooved rollers to form wire rows and feeding the workpiece toward the wire rows to perform slitting while the fixed abrasive wire is caused to travel in a reciprocating manner in the axial direction, the fixed abrasive wire having an abrasive anchored in the surface thereof, wherein the method is characterized in that: after cutting of the workpiece is complete, the fixed abrasive wire is wound back, from the position of when the cutting of the workpiece is complete, by a length of 1/3 to 2/3 (inclusive) of the length of the fixed abrasive wire fed out from the time when the workpiece and the wire first come into contact with each other and the cutting is started to the time when the cutting of the workpiece is complete; and the workpiece is then withdrawn from the wire rows. Provided thereby are a workpiece cutting method and a wire saw with which the wire is prevented from being caught on the workpiece and developing saw marks, and the wire is prevented from breaking when the wire is removed after the workpiece is cut.
