An X-ray tube increased in the assembly accuracy and the assemblability of a cathode. Through holes (46) with a diameter approximately equal to the inner diameter of a filament (18) are formed in the wall surfaces of a converging groove (24) in the converging electrode (22) of the cathode (12) at positions aligned with the center axis of the coil of the filament (18). When support leads (20, 20a) supporting the filament (18) are fixed to the converging electrode (22), a mandrel (80) is passed through the coil of the filament (18) and the through holes (46), the filament (18) is positioned, the converging electrode (22) is fitted to the hole (48) of the cathode support body (38) of an envelope, and the support lead (20) is fixedly brazed directly to the converging electrode (22) and the support lead (20a) is fixedly brazed to the converging electrode (22) through an insulator assembly (26). At the same time, the converging electrode (22) and an exhaust pipe (44) are fixedly brazed to a cathode support body (38).
