A yarn 1, provided with: a plurality of long and thin expanded graphite sheet pieces 7; and a cylindrical member 5 formed by knitting or assembling a fiber material. The expanded graphite sheet pieces 7 are packed in a twisted state in the cylindrical member 5. In addition, a gland packing formed by a plurality of the yarns 1 being braided, or being twisted in a bundled state.
