A zinc-air secondary battery (1) includes a negative electrode (3) on which zinc is deposited during charging, a positive electrode (2), and an alkaline electrolytic solution (40) that contains zinc ions or ions containing zinc. The electrolytic solution contains a brightener for zincate plating, which is an organic compound. The brightener is preferably a water-soluble reaction product of: urea or thiourea; dialkylamino alkylamine; and dihalogenoalkyl ether. More preferably, the electrolytic solution contains a water-soluble reaction product of imidazole and epihalohydrin. The negative electrode preferably has a coil shape.
