Abstract:
Provided is a zinc foil which, when used as a negative electrode active material, can reduce the generation of gas during long-term storage of a battery compared to conventional foils. This zinc foil contains zinc as a base material, and contains bismuth. The bismuth content is 100-10000 ppm on a mass basis. Crystal grains of zinc have a particle size of 0.2-8 µm. Crystal grains of bismuth have a particle size of less than 1000 nm when measured using a backscattered electron image taken by a scanning electron microscope. The zinc foil is free from aluminum and/or lead, or even in the case where the zinc foil contains aluminum and/or lead, the aluminum content is 1% or less on a mass basis and/or the lead content is 200 ppm or less on a mass basis.
