Abstract:
Provided are a zirconia media having improved wear resistance and durability, zirconia bearing balls, and a manufacturing method thereof. The zirconia media: (a) comprises a ZrO2–Y2O3-based zirconia sintered body, the Y2O3/ZrO2 molar ratio being in a range of 2.5/97.5 to 3.2/96.8 inclusive; (b) has a Al2O3 content in a range of 0.1 to 30.0 mass% inclusive; (c) contains 90% by volume or more of tetragonal zirconia; (d) has a relative density of 95% or more; (e) has an average crystal grain size in a range of 0.25 to 0.50 μm inclusive; (f) has a minimum compression load value of Pmin (N)>600×D2.0 (D being the average media diameter); (g) has a Weibull coefficient of crushing load value of 10 or more; and (h) has a media diameter coefficient of variation of less than 6%.
