[Problem] To simultaneously deliver high performance in the high magnification, wide-angle and entire zoom range of a zoom lens. [Solution] A zoom lens comprises the following in order from the object side: a positive first lens group (G1) that is fixed when zooming; a negative second lens group (G2) that moves when zooming; a positive third lens group (G3) that moves when zooming and that compensates for variations in the image plane that accompany zooming; and a positive fourth lens group (G4) that is fixed when zooming and has a stop that is closest to the object side. The second lens group (G2) has at least two positive lenses and at least one negative lens. The following conditional expressions are satisfied when the Abbe number and partial dispersion ratio of one of the positive lenses of the second lens group (G2) are represented by νp and Pp respectively.
