Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a surfactant composition containing a sulfonated product with reduced odors.SOLUTION: The invention provides a method for producing a surfactant composition containing a polyhydric alcohol (A), water (B) and a sulfonated product (E). The method includes the process (1) of converting, in the presence of (A) and (B), an esterified product (C) of a C4-22 unsaturated dicarboxylate (c1) and a C1-22 aliphatic mono-alcohol (c2) into a sulfonated product (E) with a sulfonation agent (D), where the sulfonation agent (D) is at least one selected from the group consisting of sulfite, hydrogen sulfite and disulfite and salts thereof. The process (1) includes the step (1-1) of sulfonating at 90-115°C so that a conversion rate of from (C) to (E) becomes 75-95% and further includes the step (1-2) of sulfonating at 116-135°C so that the conversion rate of from (C) to (E) becomes 96% or more.SELECTED DRAWING: None
