Abstract:
To provide a toothpaste formulation for delivery of a payload to an oral cavity.SOLUTION: A toothpaste formulation comprises: a toothpaste base having less than about 35 wt.% of water; and a film comprising 5 wt.% or less of water based on the weight of the film, a cellulose polymer having hydroxypropyl methylcellulose subunits, starch, a humectant and a payload, where the payload is one or more of sweeting agents, flavoring agents, breath-freshening agents, anti-microbial agents, herbal agents, botanical agents, vitamins and anti-oxidants. The toothpaste formulation is stable under slightly aqueous conditions, but dissolves when exposed to moderate or highly aqueous conditions and/or to mechanical action, releasing the payload.SELECTED DRAWING: None
