Abstract:
To provide an ebullated bed type hydrotreating system that can obtain useful end products from low quality heavy oil feedstocks, and that enables conversion without accumulation of precipitates and fouling of equipment.SOLUTION: A dual catalyst system containing a heterogeneous catalyst and dispersed metal sulfide particles is used. The dual catalyst system converts more effectively the asphaltene in an ebullated bed type reactor and increases a conversion rate of the asphaltene in an amount that at least offsets a higher asphaltene concentration resulting from reuse of the vacuum bottom. In addition, residual dispersed metal sulfide catalyst particles in the vacuum bottom can maintain or increase a concentration of a dispersed metal sulfide catalyst in the ebullated bed type reactor.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2C
