Abstract:
PURPOSE:To prevent bridging due to excessive dumping of stock as well as to obtain a homogeneous ingot by using a consumable electrode made of stock and automatically dumping stock by accurate side charge according to the dropping distance of the electrode varying moment by moment. CONSTITUTION:The weight of stock remaining in a hopper 5 and an electromagnetic feeder 6 as an automatic stock dumping device is measured moment by moment with a load cell 8, the dropping distance of a consumable electrode 3 made of stock is measured moment by moment with a stroke meter 10 and the resulting signals are inputted in a control part 9. The internal pressure of the feeder 6 considered to be the internal pressure of a melting furnace 1 is measured moment by moment with a pressure gauge 11 and the resulting signals are also inputted in the control part 9. The part 9 calculates the proper amt. of stock to be dumped and outputs the signal to the feeder 6. The difference between the desired amt. of stock to be dumped and the amt. of stock actually dumped is calculated at prescribed short intervals from the weight of stock expressed according to variation of the internal pressure of the furnace 1, the difference is added to the desired amt. of stock to be dumped and stock is dumped in a prescribed time. Accordingly, stock can be dumped by an amt. close to the desired amt. corresponding to the dropping distance of the electrode 3.
