Abstract:
PURPOSE: To provide a separator which is hardly broken against expansion of an electrode by forming the separator by a porous sheet made of gas permeable plastic and setting its displacement quantity against a load in the thickness direction to 100μm/kgf.cm<-2> or less in a compression test method stipulated in JIS K7220. CONSTITUTION: A positive electrode 1 is a sheet sintered type nickel electrode, while a negative electrode 2 is a sheet hydrogen storage alloy electrode. The positive electrode 1 and the negative electrode 2 overlap each other via a separator 3 and are wound in a swirl so as to be inserted in a battery case 5 as a spiral electrode body 4. Potassium hydroxide water solution whose concentration is 30% by weight is injected as an electrolyte, an insulting body 14 is put on, a projecting ring groove 5a is formed in the vicinity of the opening part of the battery case 5, a gasket 6 and a sealing lid 7 are put above, and then, the opening part of the battery case 5 is fastened inward so as to be sealed. Desirably, the separator 3 is processed so as to be provided with a hydrophilic property.
