Abstract:
PURPOSE:To enhance high rate discharge performance by constituting a negative active material so that the ratio of electric capacity required to reduce a negative electrode to electric capacity required to oxidize a positive electrode is in an adequate range. CONSTITUTION:In a schematic drawing of the capacity of positive electrode made of a non-sintered nickel electrode to which metallic cobalt is added, 1 shows an electric capacity equivalent to the capacity which is charged in the initial charge but not discharged. 5 shows an electric capacity equivalent to the capacity which is charged in the initial charge but not discharged in the capacity of a negative electrode made of a hydrogen storage alloy containing a metal oxide or a metal hydroxide. As the metal oxide or metal hydroxide to be added to the negative electrode, Cu2O, CuO, CoO, or CO(OH)2 is selected. The active materials are controlled so that the ratio of the electric capacity 5 to the electric capacity 1 becomes 0.2-0.9.
