To perform sterilization in a clothes dryer for drying clothes by a heat pump.
During a drying operation performed by driving a blower 26 for circulation and the heat pump, at the point of time at which a drying rate (detected from the difference of detected temperatures of temperature sensors 44 and 45 on a hot air entrance side and a hot air exit side) becomes 90% for instance, the heat pump 33 is stopped, a damper device 36 is turned to a fully closed state and a PTC heater 40 is energized. Then, almost all of circulation air flows out from a discharge port 35 to the inside of an outer box 1, and air inside the outer box 1 is sucked from an introducing port 39 into a ventilation path 17. The sucked air is heated by the PTC heater 40, turned to high temperature air effective for sterilization and supplied into a rotary tub 3.
