To provide a technique capable of increasing the temperature of exhaust emission in decelerating a vehicle in a controller of an internal combustion engine having a variable valve timing mechanism.
This internal combustion engine having the variable valve timing mechanism changing the opening and closing timings of an exhaust valve comprises a deceleration exhaust valve advance-angle means advancing the valve closing timing of the exhaust valve by the variable valve timing mechanism in decelerating the vehicle and a deceleration fuel injection means jetting a small amount of fuel in decelerating the vehicle. The temperature of the exhaust emission is increased by the combustion of the fuel, and a specified decelerating force can be provided by canceling a generated torque by increasing a pump loss.
