Abstract:

To develop a suitable compressed self-ignitability according to the operation load area of an engine.

In the compressed self-igniting operation area, only intake ports 24a for flowing out an intake air in the direction to weak a swing flow EXFgenerated by the re-opening operation of one exhaust port 24b is opened on the low load side, and an intake valve and an exhaust valve are controlled to open the intake ports 24a, 24a on the high load side. In the compressed self-igniting operation area, the mixing of fresh air with the burned gas is promoted, the temperature in the entire cylinder is rapidly raised, and a compressed self-ignition without residues is assured in a lean state on the low load side. A fresh air-fuel mixture is stratified in a deviated state around an ignition plug in a combustion chamber, and the assisting of ignition is also facilitated while preventing knocking from occurring on the high load side.
