Abstract:

To provide an exhaust emission control device for an internal combustion engine capable of continuing operation of the internal combustion engine in an optimal operating condition in regard to exhaust emission while conforming output torque of the internal combustion engine to demand output torque until a temperature of an exhaust purifying catalyst reaches catalyst activation temperature.

The exhaust emission control device includes an exhaust recirculation passage carrying out fluid communication of an exhaust system and an intake system in a downstream than the exhaust purifying catalyst, a catalyst warm-up means for recirculating exhaust discharged from an internal combustion engine body to the intake system via the exhaust recirculation passage when the temperature of the exhaust purifying catalyst should be raised to a predetermined value or more, and carrying out warm-up of the exhaust purifying catalyst by using heat of burned gas discharged from the internal combustion engine body, and a torque control means for matching the output torque of the internal combustion engine to the demand torque by applying drive torque or braking torque to the internal combustion engine during execution of the warm-up of the exhaust purifying catalyst by the catalyst warm-up means.
